REPLACING TEETH WITH DENTURES Williston Park, NY

Elderly man with coffee at table wearing dentures by Williston Park Dentist, Long Island Smiles.Dentures are a dental appliance used to replace missing teeth. Dentures come in two varieties; partial dentures and complete or full dentures for either or both arches. Today, our patients have options in how their denture device is secured, including overdentures and Implant secured dentures. Whether you are new to missing teeth or have been missing them for years, we can help you be fitted with dentures that will look and feel like your natural teeth. You do not have to struggle with loose, uncomfortable dentures. Our team at Long Island Smile can design a treatment plan that will enhance your function, comfort and look.

Partial Denture
A partial denture is designed for a patient who is missing multiple teeth, either in a row or randomly on an arch. Generally, partial dentures are a removable device that is held in place by gripping healthy teeth using clasps and wires. Though they fill a function, the clasps can wear and cause damage to your healthy teeth. Today, there are implant options that will allow your partial denture to be held permanently in place.

A dental implant is a metal rod that is surgically placed into the bone. Once the bone has healed, it becomes permanently bonded to the implant allowing the implant to be held firmly in place. With this foundation stabilized, can then attach your partial denture device to the implant for a firm hold.

Complete Denture

A full or complete denture is a removable dental prosthesis that is designed to replace all of your teeth. This is done when the patient no longer has any healthy teeth remaining, either due to their oral health or an accident or injury. Dentures are a full set of white plastic teeth that are sunk in a pink gum-colored plastic base. They are designed to rest on top of and over your gum ridge.

Dentures are a major lifestyle change, which can include difficulty in speech and chewing. They often bring feelings of frustration and embarrassment to many patients. Learning to use your dentures will take time and practice. Dentures require a proper care routine.

Having your dentures secured with the assistance of dental implants can significantly help. Traditional dentures have no way to stabilize firmly, the use of suction and adhesives provide temporary stabilization with a high rate of failure. Dental implants take away the frustration and allow you to use your dentures like your natural teeth. A dental implant is a system of using a titanium rod that we surgically sunk into your jawbone. This provides a firm, stable structure to attach your denture to. Dentures often require the use of four to six implants for optimum stabilization. Once placed, the patient should not experience any rocking or movement in their denture device.

You can have dentures, partial and full, and still, eat and speak without fear. We want to show you dental implants, how they work, and how much of a difference they can make. Our team at Long Island Smile can help you have comfortable, permanent dentures.
